Bride and Groom Eating a Sugar FlowerModern Wedding Cake, White and Gold, in Florence, ItalyFlorence Cakes

Modern Gold wedding cake by Tuscan cake designer L’Arte Della Torta di Melanie Secciani in Florence, Italy.

Inspired by one of our custom made cake stands, this contemporary wedding cake was decorated with a hand painted, gold,  embossed, sugar ribbon and a flamboyant sugar flower.

Apart from the chic aura of the design, one of the things I really love about this cake is the flower.

My pet peeve is inedible materials on a cake. When I was first learning to make sugar flowers I was taught to make them using wires. However, it always really bothered me because I thought if a person wanted a flower made out of sugar then it should be edible????

So I worked out a way to create really gorgeous layered flowers without wires, so that my clients could eat them. Which to me seems at least one of the points of a sugar flower. The photographer got a shot of couple biting in to the flower, which is one of the images that I really really love.

I know it is a bit of a cliche but it makes me think to the saying “have your cake and eat it too”.
