By Florence, Italy cake designer Tuscan Wedding Cakes – L’Arte Della Torta di Melanie Secciani I love the look of traditional wedding cakes with a little contemporary twist. I also love gorgeous, truly artist created luxury Italian goods. So the opportunity to pair up one of my favorite classic designs with one of Italy’s best design house’s Seletti‘s Fine China lines was a match made in heaven. For this cake Tuscan Wedding Cakes took the idea of a very traditional cake with classic piped pearls and sugar ribbon and paired it with the bold China patterns from Seletti’s Hybrid line of fine china for a contemporary look. Tuscany Wedding Cake -Rustic Elegance

Tuscany Wedding Cake -Rustic Elegance

Wedding Cake for a gorgeous Tuscan wedding shoot in Florence Italy at Villa Vendetta by Tuscan Cake Designer Melanie Secciani. This cake 7 tier cake was designed for a magazine shoot. The information the planner gave me was that they wanted the cake to be rustic and elegant with a very italian feel. I started out with this delicate lace pattern and then wanted to create a more dramatic effect by over piping some of the lace details to make them really stand out and have a three demensional effect. Because I am really proud of my unwired sugar flowers I created an over the top cake topper using the flowers and candied figs that had been covered in edible gold leaf. They did say luxurious after all. Then I really want to bring a true bit of Italian art into the cake. Because well it really does come down to the details. I had just finished planning my oldest sons communion which involved the mandatory giving of confetti – essentially really well packaged thank you gifts with almond. Each of the guests for that event had received a gift cake with a pandora bead on it. I thought what if I could translate that idea to a wedding cake? Using isomalt sugar and edible gold leaf we made small gems of edible murano glass. Those were placed at the center of the bow of the cake and throughout the topped. Since I have a thing about wanting to feed the crew whenever we shoot, I also created some matching mini cakes made with our signature Apricot Sunset Cake and Gift Cakes Made from Fudge Brownies that coordinated with the larger cake. Wedding Cake Florence, Italy – Magic Flowers

Wedding Cake Florence, Italy – Magic Flowers

Wedding Cake by Tuscany Cake designer Melanie Secciani. Some cakes just come to life in your mind. This was one of those cakes. I was asked to create a cake for a Marie Antoinette inspired shoot in Florence, Italy. At the shoot I had a large cake (you can see that one here)  that I created, but I always like to create something that the crew can eat after the shoot. And also that is smaller, since a lot of the weddings I design for are destination weddings so might not have 300 guests. But the couples still want a cake to have huge impact. The night before the shoot, I still hadn’t come up with a clear inspiration and was really starting to worry about it. I woke up at about 4 in the morning with this design in my head. I literally jumped in the car and drove to the studio where I raced to get this cake done in time for the shoot. There are a lot of magical details that I really love. It’s a smaller cake with just 2 tiers and then cupcakes, mini cakes and teacup cakes that go with it to create a much bigger effect. My favorite detail was the flowers. First I painted them onto the cake, and then I created individual sugar petals so that it would appear that the flowers were emerging from the tiers. The pale green background with the bright yellow and pink flowers really gave it a vivid appeal. One of the things I hear from brides a lot is that they want a kind of cupcake display, in terms of size and spacing, but want something a little more special than just cupcakes (no offense to cupcakes – I love them). For this display created individual mini cakes with the same flower technique as the top cakes – my goodness they had drama! Then I put some of the cakes into little teacups. That was one of the best features of the cake. I noticed after the shoot, those were the first to go, because the crew could really easily pick them...

As seen in Style Me Pretty http://www.stylemepretty.com/destination-weddings/2013/09/12/romantic-italian-destination-wedding-from-matthew-moore-photography/ and Grace Ormonde – September Issue Created for a celebrity wedding  in Garfagnana near Lucca, Italy. The bride was and actress and the groom a music producer. Together we designed her cake in wedgwood blue, with a custom made sugar cameo.  The flowers on the bottom tier echoed back to the flowers on the crown Elizabeth selected for her topper. The whole cake rested on an antique Tuscan vase. The cake  was 1/2 lemon cake with lemoncello cream, and 1/2 deep chocolate cake with chocolate rum ganache and vanilla mousse.  As pictured serves 98 From the Bide – “The cake was inspired by Wedgewood with intricate ivory detailing on each tier complete with cameos handmade by our master cake artist, Melanie, and topped with a vintage-inspired crown. It truly was BREATHTAKING. (And tasted amazing as well!)” From the Mother of the Bride – “You did such an incredible job and you were a great pleasure to work with. Thanks so much again.”- Rosalind To return to the full Tuscan Wedding Cake Portfolioio , or to view our special occasion cakes including birthday cakes, anniversary cakes, and event cakes Contact Us to reserve your cake.  ...
