Tuscan Wedding Cakes, Gatsby Wedding Cake

Some couples, I just fall in love with. Because they’re kind and joyous. And let me do what I do best. Ken and Siobahn were like this for me.

First, so in love. They both had grown children and their destination wedding in Florence was a celebration of what that had built together. Oh, and they were glamorous and gracious – as was their wedding.

When they came into the laboratory, they really had no idea of what they wanted in a cake. And together we designed and redesigned. And after about an hour actually settled on a design. Except that it wasn’t quite right. It was almost right. And then Siobahn, took me outside because she wanted to show me her dress without Ken seeing it.

Eureka! Everything we had done up until that moment, didn’t matter. Because that dress was the cake. It was perfect.

And then, they let me be. They said, do what you do. Which for me meant thinking about the design, walking on it. Imagining and re-imagining. In my own head. Working it out, tier by tier.

There wedding day, was so important to them. They had waited and sacrificed. And yet, they trusted me to do what I do. Which is create works of art out of cake.

And they left me to do it, which I loved them for.

And of course everything about the wedding itself was perfectly them. Glamorous and welcoming.

The wedding was held at Villa Medicea di Lilliano. Which is one of my personal favorite venues. And felt just right for this couple. It is a Medici Villa. So there’s that. I mean literally built for royalty. But, here’s my favorite part, it’s not where the Medici’s entertained. It was their private retreat. Where they went to get out of the city or host close friends. The place were I imagine, if you were a member of an incredibly powerful and watched family, you could go to be most yourself. That is the place that Ken and Siobahn chose to get married. How perfect is that!

Tuscany Flowers created this incredible vision with crystals and roses and a gorgeous floral arch to frame the wedding cake.

And the cake itself, Gatsbyian – if that’s a word. 5 tiers of carefully laid edible sequins, piped pearls and sugar broaches. All set off with exuberant bouquets of sugar flowers. Inside was Tuscan Wedding Cakes signature Salted Caramel Carrot Cake.

Of course, this  unforgettable day was made possible through the incredibly talented Daniela Tripdoi, The Tuscan Wedding Planner and her skillful organization.
