I remember when I walked in to set-up the cake for this incredible wedding, It felt like I had walked into a movie set or a novel like the Great Gatsby. But way better. Like a royal wedding out of history. It was like being transported to another reality. Dreamlike.

And these are the dream weddings. The amazing, modern history events! So I can’t begin to tell you how incredibly honored I felt to be able to create an incredible cake for this epic wedding in a renaissance Florence castle.

I get asked alot where my inspiration comes from. And my answer is always the weddings themselves. That sense of timelessness. Of fantasy. And of course, the incredible pressure to live up to the standards of the couples and the other artists I’m working with.

This wedding was featured in Vouge and photographed by Robert Fairer. Chantel and Priscilla Giannarelli created an amazing event with flowers by the insanely talented Jeff Leatham, ballerinas, and a 20 minute firework show ON THE ARNO (literally a gift to the entire city of Florence).

The bride wore a custom Ralph & Russo wedding gown, which together with florals by Jeff Leatham became the inspiration for this wedding cake.

Because the ascetic was very luxurious and refined I opted for a dreamlike but simple painted white on white finish for the cake tiers. Between the tiers were hundreds of  white handmake sugar roses (English, hybrid and garden), peonies, and ortensia blossoms. Between the flowers were some delicate gold leafed rosebuds to set off the gold in the Ralph & Russo gown. If your wondering what it’s like when you are creating sugar flowers to match one of the worlds most celebrated florists – terrifying and so much fun.

Inside the cake was Tuscan Wedding Cakes signature Millionaire cake – Vanilla Sponge, Salted Caramel and Chocolate Mousse.
