This cake, with its four ethereal tiers, a testament to their dream, was their vision made real. Crafted with pure attention, playful movement, color, and lightness—a wedding cake that stood timeless in the garden, bathed in pastel light.

The Cake Design: A Perfect Blend of Classic Elegance and Whimsy

When I first spoke with the couple, we spoke about their dream—a whimsical, romantic atmosphere that felt as light as it was emotional. They wanted a cake that, like them, moved, with an energy that could be seen —like the swish of a dancer’s dress or the quiet flutter of petals in the breeze.

For movement, I created ruffles. Not just any ruffles. Dramatic ruffles that play with the wind. Each strip of wafer paper was carefully cut, conditioned, and shaped into large ruffles that bloomed from the right side of the cake, sweeping against the light. Then they became smaller, more delicate before fading into the softness of the left side. Movement captured—a ruffle alive in the wind, inviting you to lean in and dance.

On the opposite side, pastel sugar posies—blue, pink, and purple—gently climbed the cake. Each delicate blossom, blooming, reaching toward the top. Sugar flowers, light and organic – a soft, playful counterpoint to the exuberant energy of the ruffles. A marriage of energy and gentleness, of elegance and playfulness.

Balancing Boldness with Softness in Wedding Cake Design

Creating a cake that was both bold and colorful as well as soft and romantic was an exciting challenge. The large ruffles were dramatic, alive, and bold, while the flowers were soft, tender, and romantic. Balancing the two elements required careful attention to design—ensuring neither element overshadowed the other.

By letting them speak to each other, we created a natural flow: the flowers guided the eye up the cake, while the ruffles lent a wild energy to the pastel posies. Together, they worked in perfect harmony—just like love itself.

The destination wedding took place in the heart of Tuscany,  where nature sings to the soft green hills . Golds, and pinks of wildflowers dance between the whispers of centuries-old olive trees. The iconic gardens of Villa Centinale provided the perfect backdrop—its glamour, charm, and timeless beauty brought the cake to life.

Bathed in that late afternoon light, the cake felt like a piece of the landscape itself—a memory-in-the-making, designed for a couple with hearts ready to celebrate.
